What does Touch IC / Touchscreen Unresponsive mean?

Touchscreen becomes intermittently or completely unresponsive due to failed touch IC on logic board.

Common causes

• Meson/Cumulus touch IC flex solder joint failure
• Board flexion from dropping or pressure
• Failed display assembly
• Torn display flex cable

Diagnostic & testing steps

1. 1. Inspect display flex cables for damage
2. 2. Swap known-good display to rule out display vs board
3. 3. If still unresponsive with good display, Touch IC failure likely
4. 4. Look for gray/flickering bar at top of screen (Touch Disease indicator on iPhone 6 Plus)
5. 5. Board-level: reball Meson/Cumulus touch IC

• Pentalobe screwdriver
• Spudger
• Suction cup
• Known-good display
